At IM Dental Care we strongly believe that children should not experience tooth decay and should be at ease in a dental setting. To maximise the chances of good oral health, we will typically assess children’s diet, oral hygiene habits and use of pacifiers and provide parents with tailormade advice on how to maintain their child’s good oral health. A recall interval will be recommended based on the child’s risk.

National guidelines recommend that children should go to the dentist with their parents once their first tooth erupts, or at least by their first birthday. The reason for this is that prevention is paramount.

Seeing the dentist from as early as a year old allows the child to become accustomed to the dental surroundings. It also enables them to build a relationship with staff and prevents children from developing a phobia of seeing the dentist.
